JACQUEMUS: L’ANNèE 97

The Jacquemus FW 20/21 runway

During the Paris fashion week, the Jacquemus show was staged, celebrating the brand's ten years of life. "L’année 1997" is the title of the fall-winter 2020-2021 collection and the whole show showed this inspiration from the 90s in the most elegant way. A co-end fashion show that brought woman and man together in one event.

Guest of honor of the event was Laetitia Casta, absent from the catwalks for ten years, whose career was at the peak of success in the year 1997, in addition to Gigi and Bella Hadid, Doutzen Kroes, Vittoria Ceretti, Mica Arganaz, Joan Smalls and Adut Akech for the woman and Jarrod Scott, Parker van Noord, Cyrrus Amini and the boxer Alexis Chaparro for the man. Laetitia Casta has always been an inspiring muse for the designer Simon Porte Jacquemus and the outfit she wears summarizes the key style of the collection.

The Jacquemus fall-winter 2020-2021 must have

Clean, minimal lines, mini cardigans and midi skirts, and lots of linen, even in winter, with an eye to eco-sustainability.

A pure and simple sensuality, essential and with neutral tones. Fitted skirts that highlight the curves of the body and shirt dresses with draperies, garments such as the bra-top and shoes with sculpted heels to be combined with long ribbed socks in chalk color.

The famous Chiquito bag has been declined in a micro and macro version, for the first time even men show it off as a hymn to the superfluous for the style benefits. Other accessories on the catwalk include a large velvet-effect leather tote, a square pouch to wear on the shoulders, a bottle cage worn by the man and bracelets with the symbols of the Jaquemus maison. Every detail is a reference to the dawn of Simon's career and to his delineation of the style that has characterized the brand for over ten years.

A step back in time

Small curiosity, the designer's very first creation dates back to the year 1997, a skirt made for the mother in linen, cut from a curtain and enriched with a green lace detail. A very simple but timeless garment, which the mother wore often and which enhanced its essential elegance.

Today this memory has created the basis for a more minimal style evolution that still maintains the irreverence typical of the designer's creative genius with strokes of bright colors on a palette of neutral and eternal nuances.

Classic garments such as trench coats or parkas are combined with pants and shorts made with sustainable fibers, some of which offer a fake open flap with exposed shorts. The vests return to cover the shirts and the overalls are worn lowered as if they were trousers combined with the oversize shirt.

This reinterpretation of the nineties with a process of stylistic evolution is the basis of a proliferating creativity, which draws and offers inspiration, which creates wearable and original garments and which is characterized by the minimalist simplicity of the reference decade.

A new chapter officially opens for the Jacquemus brand, not an experimental continuation we are used to seeing but a new beginning for the brand led by the enfant prodige Simon.
